A little piece of Art Nouveau history, reimagined in colour.

The Spring Muse Brooch is inspired by Alphonse Mucha’s The Arts: Music, a colour lithograph created in 1898 as part of his celebrated The Arts series.

In the original work, Mucha personified Music as a woman raising her hands to her ears, listening to the song of nightingales at moonrise. His characteristic circular composition, flowing lines and union of the feminine figure with the natural world are echoed in this tiny wearable interpretation.

I hand-paint each brooch in luminous shades of coral pink, leafy green and warm gold, transforming Mucha’s moonlit muse into something brighter and more botanical, almost as though she had stepped from the original artwork into a spring garden.

The raised details of the brass design catch the colour differently across the flowers, flowing hair and folds of her dress, giving the piece the rich, dimensional quality of a miniature artwork rather than a flat illustration.
